223 bolt pattern

Will a later C4 tranny bolt up to a '64 223 or is the bellhousing bolt pattern the same as a '64 and earlier 289/260? A friend has a '64 F100 and wants to convert to an auto tranny. Thanks

The 223/262 has a different bell housing patern than the small block ford V8 (& 240/300 I6). I 'belive' that the 223 has the same bell as the Y-block (292). As '64 was the last year for the 223 (& the 292) & the first year for the C4, you'll want to find that bell housing. The only other automatic option (unless there's an adapter?) is to use the older ford-o-matic tranny.

I had a 292 in a 59 F-100. I think you can adapt/use a FMX tranny, what years I'm not sure.
