If it is a 3 speed automatic behind a 360 it is almost for sure a C6. Take a look in the tech articles, there is a section called transmission spotters guide that will tell you the shape of the pan and other distinguishing features of your tranny.
It is a manual, I'm not familiar with fords so I wasn't sure if a c6 was manual or automatic.
Also, what are the discerning features between a 360 and 390 or where on the engine does it say which it is. The VIN on the 70 F100 says it shuld have a 360, but I'm not sure if its the original engine.
Again, I'm not very familiar with fords so I hope you can forgive my ignorance.
The engines do not have any external identification unless the ID tag is still on it (and even then it may be wrong if it was moved to a new engine). It is impossible to tell them apart externally but the 360 is much more common. Hawkrod
its a "Ford 3 speed" toploader style transmission.
it should have a tag on the passenger side near the bell.
352, 360, 390, 406, 410, 427, 428.... they are "FE's" some are bigger than others but since they are so huge on the exterior they are usually called bigblocks.
the bigblock/smallblock is usually a chevy term since they only have two (most commonly used) engines one large and one small.
