Shorties or Longtubes?

I'm a car lover that recently comes from Bowties and now I'm dabbling into the late 60's blue ovals..question for the experts here...the LS1 Camaro I recently had responded really well to the long tube headers I put on it...I'm taking the stock manifolds off of a 302 that's in the '66 Mustang I just recently purchased...what's better for the 302--shorties, or long tube headers? Thanks in advance for your tips/suggestions!

BigBloo,
Not that there aren't any experts here (in fact I think we have one or two ), you might have a little better luck with your question with the guys down in the Exhaust Systems forum here at FTE.

Just a thought.

I think long tubes will give you better torque. Alot has to do with collector length. I wouldn't run shorties on anything except newer cars that have either Y-pipes to worry about or cat converters.

Long tubes = gobs of torque. BUT....they are a pain to get to work, and often involve much fabrication to get them to work properly. Equal length shorties are the best of both worlds. They fit where a standard shorty would, but all of the primary tubes are of equal length, so there is no exhaust crowding in the collector. Also, like stated previously, you should post in the exhaust forum.

I'll post in the exhaust forum also--I was just concerned that since this didn't apply to a truck, I should put it in the general auto section...thanks all
