Hello, changed from a ' 87 F150 to a ' 88 Ford Full Size Bronco.
Yesterday afternoon, I rolled down the back tail gait window and
the window didn't want to go back up. I took the back panel out and
tried to hot wire the motor and nothing. The window now is rolled down,
and i can't get to the motor to replace the motor. I think i'ts the motor, because days before the window was going down pretty slower.
there is 2 or 4 bolts at the bottom of the window if you can get your arm in their you might be able to getthe window out,its been awile since I took mine out.
the most likely culprit is the motor. especially given that it was slow the past few days. This is unfortunately a fairly common repair on our trucks. I suggest doing a search on here for "rear window"+motor and see what you find. I know I've seen it discussed many many times
I have the Haines repair manual, it mentions to drill the rivets that hold the regulator to pull the glass out manually. It also mentions that there is a dealer template to drill in the right locations. I actually found a motor at napa for about $55 is that a good price? Does anyone have this template that could be emailed to me?
Does anyone know any other way to take the glass out? to get to the motor.
Check your latch first to make it is shuting all the way most of the window problems come from that, if you can open tailgate work the side latches with WD 40.
When tailgate is open check wiring were it bends from the tailgate being open and shut thats also a trouble area.
I have had many Broncos never have had a motor go.
Search forms this issue comes up once a week.
If you end up needing a motor I found this on ebay today. Item # 7954787430$49.99 is not a bad price. My window is getting pretty slow and I was just doing some preventative looking for when I have to do the same repair. Check the track and Bearings just under the access pannel towards the top of the gate if it is down. The bearings sit in a plastic housing that gets worn after many years. I greased the heck out of the tracks and replaced both bearings. It really made a differance.
Hey I have a 88 to and when I first looked at it I had the same problem. Push the tailgate close firmly on both sides and pull on it and if it moves it did not engage.
Everyone seems to be missing the part in the first post where he says that he already tried to direct wire the motor--unfortunately, it sounds like the motor is gone, $50 is'nt that bad a price for a new one
Since it's stuck DOWN, you can at least open the 'gate--don't know if you can get to the bolts/rivets though
once you get the glass out of the way, changing the motor just requires a little patience to get it out of the gate--make sure you get help when pulling the glass out, or it's likely to break when you have it pulled out horizontally
I have a 1982 and one of the rollers in the track keeps popping off and makes the window slow and jam up tight they are plastic in the center and pop on a tip on the arm, does anyone know if they a dealer ,junkyard, or parts house item?
Scurbiedog, Ford sells them in a two pack. The part # is D6AZ-5323240-A. They are pretty cheap and they are not hard to replace. Clean and lube the tracks while you are in there, it really helps.
