Idle problem with Predator - please help!!!
I just received my Predator in the mail today for my 2000 Ford F-350 5.4L gas V8. The changes I have made to the vehicle (from stock) are Gibson headers, dual free-flow catalytic converters into dual 4" Flowmaster exhausts, and a cold air intake with a K&N filter. The truck has had this configuration for several months now without incident.
I read the entire manual carefully, then programmed my truck with the performance tune. There are two idle settings in the predator, neutral idle and in-gear idle. The specific problem that I am having is that when the transmission is in neutral, the engine idles at about 2200 RPMs. When the transmission is in gear, it idles much closer to the correct RPM, about 1000. I re-installed the tune after lowering the neutral idle setting (to 400) and that does lower the idle when in neutral to about 1800 RPMs (or about 1000 RPMs too high).
I tried to restore the backup on the Predator, but the neutral idle is still the same, about 1800. I have sent an e-mail to DiabloSport's technical support department and am awaiting a response.
I hate to drive the truck around this way - when I start it and put it into gear it jolts forward (because the engine is revved so high).
Any ideas guys?
Tom
Doesn't it seem a little strange that I have never had that problem before (on a truck I with 48,000 miles) and then after running the tune I have it? Just seems awful "coincidental".
How do I check the IAC valve? Is there voltage I check or something? I should be able to find it in the repair manual.
