Spent this afternoon changing the rear gear oil and replacing the rear diff. cover. The new cover is made by Mag-Hytec and holds 6qts which is twice the capacity over stock. Cool thing about this cover is it has a magnetic dipstick and maganetic drain plug...so no more taking the cover off to change oil or conduct routine maintenance. It uses an O-Ring..so no more messy Gasket Maker. It also has ready a port for a Temperature Sender.
Future mods will be a MAG-Hytec Transmission Pan (when I hit 30,000), and MAG-Hytec front cover (supposedly 12-16 weeks until its release)...I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will clear my stabilizer.
Looks great! Nice lookin' truck! How often are you changing the fluid on your Superduty? I just moved over from a Ram and I had to change the diff fluid on it over 10K otherwise the clutches in the limited slip started to chatter. Not to mention the Dodge differential started to deteriorate twice on me (a lot of BIG parts on the magnet). I'm hoping that the Ford is truly more super-duty!

Thanks! I believe the recommended interval is like 97500 miles and then again at 150,000 miles. Exception would be if the axle was submerged...then its a good idea to check for water and flush and re-lube as required...because of the double capacity of the cover...its supposed to run 45deg cooler.
The new cover is supposed to to be near stock size..but a little bigger according to Mag-Hytec.
Here are some better pictures...with different angles so you can see the size. I had to do some undercarrage and spring maintenance after looking at the original pictures posted..lol
Bear Hunter , your truck looks awesome!!!! You can see you put alot of work in your truck. Its good to see there are other truck fanatics out there LOL!! I have to show my girlfriend these forums so she sees I am not the only one crazy about their truck
Yeah..I guess you can say I am fanatical about vehicle maintenance. I tend to be over the top with these kind of things ...I'm the same way with my guns..drives my wife nuts...she blames the Army This is my daily driver, but I will admit that I haven't had the time or opportunity to go out and really 4x4 "hard" between the OPTEMPO at work and the family. Since everything is more visible under there due to the lift...I figure, if I don't take care of it when I catch it and spend a little time...it will build up and be a heck of a chore to correct without disassembling everything. I had ordered some rust bullit several months ago and spent yesterday morning hitting what was accessable for the first time.
The gear oil I used was Amsoil Severe Gear 75-140 synthetic with posi-additive. The shock mounts were just moved to the outside of the "nub" which enabled it to be rotated.
