necker's ****

Do any of you guys have one of those ***** on your steering wheel that allows you to steer with one arm? I don't know the proper name but always called them "necker's *****" because you could have one arm around you girl friend and still steer. I remember seeing them around in the '60s.

Can you still buy those things?

If you buy one - make sure it folds down out of the way when you are not using it - they caused so many accidents by catching on a coat sleeve that they were almost banned in several states.

I got mine back in the 60's from Playboy. translucent pearl **** with a black inset of a Vargas playgirl. Don't use it now, but keep it around.

knew them as cowboy *****

EDITED by FTE

I remember a little more..they were banned in my state in late sixties because some people would catch their long sleeve on the **** and lose control of the vehicle and have an accident

the better ones had the ability to fold down[away] and some were metal flake or just beautiful shiny

You can find several hundred listed on ebay under "steering wheel *****" - some even have vintage pictures like Gulf Gas or Betty Boob. Even found the Big Boy logo, as well as the old A -and - W Root Beer stands logo.

Kind of fun to look at them - thanks for reminding us.

My wife will be getting one for our minivan as we get it retrofitted with hand controls, wheelchair lift, etc. She does not want a plain black boring one.. she wants something cool, so the search is on. We'll most likely be searching eBay.

We run them on our tractors and stuff some time. They can really bust the pees out of your hand if you hit a rut and it jerks the wheel one direction or the other.

the old days

In the old days we used to call them "spinners". Definitely could turn the wheel faster with one of them, but using the palm of your hand was a close second. I used to write my name in parking lots with burning rubber (the last half of the "m" I did in reverse.) Prob looked good from the air. I think some states they are illegal. But so are a lot of car accesories and nobody cares.

ACammer72 is right on. The old brodie **** was great for spinning around the parking lot, Some even had a naked girl on them. I use one now on my vise handle just for old times sakes.
