My dad just purchased a 2002 F-250 4X4 with the 7.3 Powerstroke diesel.
He uses the truck for a daily driver and for pulling a car trailer for his bussiness.
He simply wants better fuel milage. More power/torque would be a plus, but primarily he just wants better fuel milage. He asked me to look into this for him.
He was looking at DIABLO PREDATOR, Is this the best choice for him. One reason he likes it is because of the LIFETIME waranty. He intends on keeping this truck.
He bought this truck so he could park (maybe sell....crying..) his 1967 Ford 3/4 ton camper special, that he has owned since 1970. Any help in the desicion making would be greatly appreciated.
THANKS!!!
i have a 2002 7.3. installed a Banks 6gunner the other day. not sure about fuel miles
yet. horse and torque gain is nice. has built in limiters so you dont destroy anything.
--i am not saying this is the best or anything. it is what i choose.
Some manufacturers design their chips and programmers to make maximum power, and they leave it up to you to protect your truck by monitoring exhaust gas temp, etc.
Banks poducts do not have the high power claims of others. But, Banks claims their products are designed to remain within safe limits for the engine.
I can only go by reputation, as I don't have any experience with diesel tuners. However, I, too, want reliability and a little better fuel mileage when towing. I don't need the highest power output. So, when I buy, I have already decided on a Banks six-gun. It seems to suit what I want.
Disclaimer - this is only an opinion based on repuation and things read on this and other forums. As such, it is virtually worthless....
I have the SuperChips 1705 MicroTuner and love it. I have read about the Diablo causing hig EGT's. If you don't have guages, you won't know what the extra power is doing, so you should consider them as well just to be safe. I have heard that the Edge Evolution is more powerful than the SCMT but I don't know about the EGT's for it.
I know several people with SCMT's in the tow setting without guages with no problems, but without guages, they won't know of problems until it is too late.
Got the predator like it a lot turned it up all the way a coupel of times when it was still cold out 10 deg and makes bunches of power had to turn it down though no guages yet did let it idle for about 10 min after 2 short but hard runs to cool down b-4 shutdown you can also turn up line psi in trans to protect aganst slipps with the hp turned up. also you can back out the performance programming if you need to go to the stealer for any warranty issues thats the best part. I leave it on the tow safe setting 40hp increase until i get guages then i will play some more. I did get that big ***** eaten grin with it on the 100 HP setting though. almost as much fun as my 94 impala SS the reason i say that is it's lost bigger and I LOVE to hear that turbo whistel...
The Predator for the 7.3L Super duty allows you to change shift firmness,
but not shift point.
You should notice about 3 MPG increase in fuel economy, if your driving
style does not change.
With the 85 HP tune, your EGTs will be fine. If you plan on running the
highest HP setting, I recommend you get bigger exhaust and an EGT gauge,
for safety.
