C-6 Tranny trouble
1985 C-6 on a 350 with 460. Truck backfired heavy when shut down. When I fired it up again I discovered it blew off the vacuum plugs from the manifold. I fixed that put it in gear to drive off and discovered the tranny does not upshift. If shifted by hand 1st and 2nd will engage but 3rd will not. In D it will only go in 1st. When manuel shifting the shift is a hard shift.

You might have blown off the vacuum line to the modulator valve on the transmission. Or you could have ruined the modulator valve itself. Look on the pass side rear of the trans, and you should see a rubber hose connecting a steel line which runs up to the intake manifold. See if all this is intact. The modulator valve mounts in the trans and is what the rubber hose hooks to. It monitors the engine load (by vacuum) and tells the trans when to shift.

Thank you for the responce. I found the hose blown off and down the back side of the block where I could not see it before. The factory service manuel did not mention this item. Well I,m back on the road without the usual Midas reply "got to rebuild - send money
