I got a smog test yesterday and they told me my fan clutch on the stock 4.9 fan is siezed. I'd really like to install an electric fan. Is there a general concensus on which one is the best? At the store today I was looking at elec. fans and one manf. suggested installing two 14" fans. Does this sound right?
Is there any reason why you are wanting to put an E-fan in your truck or just because you think it would be cool? Just wondering. A stock clutched fan will more than cool your engine. The only reason I am going to switch when my clutch craps out is so I can get faster warmups in the winter.
im running an electric fan from an early 90's mercury tracer. i have a pic up in my gallery. it pulls 100a at startup and 25a running on high. i would go the the junkyard and get one from a big car. if my alt is not putting out the full 14.4v,like if i have my lights on and the fan, then the fan cant keep up with the heat from the engine, if i sit there long enough. but if the alt is making the full 14.4v then i can drop 15* water temp in around a minute.

I plan on doing some other engine mods and I live in the desert- Las Vegas. It runs pretty warm in the summer already, mods would make it worse. Plus I want to pick up all the HP I can get, however little.
Like I said, just wondering. Perhaps it may be something in your radiator or lock that is cutting down on the cooling. Just replacing the fan will not always make things better. Just make sure you have adequate sized fans.
i installed aa flex-a-lite black magic 150 model. new water pump, t-stat (180), and a new belt for the pump. i didnt think it would work to be honest. ( I had the fan lying around from a prev. truck and didnt wont to waste the money spent.) anyways, this is a single fan and works beautifully.. highly impressed..the truck doesnt make as much noise, it warms quicker and stays exactly where I sat the t-stat.and even though I'm not burning the tires off, I do like the little extra hp. I recommend doing this. just make sure you do it right. This part is not something you get to replace cheaply.(after blowing a motor)
