Just curious what some of you all would recommend as good shocks for a stock F100 front end, and a 9 inch rear which uses the stock shock mounts crossed (left side to right side)?
Dewayne gave me the KG4528 for the Volare fronts already (thanks D).
There is a lot of choice out there, but I feel that the good old Monroe standard gas shocks are about the best for the money. I perfer the standard, not heavy duty, for use with leaf springs. On the front anyhow, on the rear it depends on what is intended to be hauled weather to go with standard or heavy duty. If your looking to spend the money for the high end shocks probably Koni or the Gabriel adjustable would be the way to go.
I'm with 51, Monroe are good. It depends on what you want. Hi performance? reliability? KYB also makes a great shock. It also depends on your budget. Since I'm not doing a slolom course or racing my japanese counterparts through the canyons, I'm running KYB's in the front and Monroe Gas Matic in the rear. Works for me.
Monroe and Gabriel are definitely one of the best shocks available at Wal-Mart auto center. And what a great warranty! Don't lose track of your reciept and you can get a couple new ones for free every year.
Seriously, do keep the receipt. I have experienced a pretty high fail rate with Monroe Sensetracs and Gabriel Ryders on a few different vehicles these past few years. (4 of ten shocks did not last 5,000 miles) Hardly a comprehensive test, but still, that's not an impressive sample IMO. It's my opinion that Monroe used to make a better product than they do today. My failed shocks were subjected to vehicles with fairly high unsprung weight. Which is exactly what all the stockers and 75% of the rodders are doing here. Heavy wheels, tires or beam axles.

I have been looking at the many shock offerings on Speedway. Most of the upper end shocks are offered with various valving; 3, 3-5, 4, 4-6, 5-7, 6. Can anyone give an idea of a good valving for a short 7 inch stroke front shock.
Also, what is the effect of the gas charge on shock performance? Does it have the effect of increasing the Comp/Reb. performance giving a stiffer ride?
