If you want a good motor the 69-71 302's were the best as far as HP and Torque. They average around 205HP @4600rpm and 300lbs Torque @2600rpm and a 8.6:1 - 9.0:1 compression ration. I've also been told the 1969 and 70 blocks were cast a little thicker than other years therefore having thicker cylinder walls. If you could get your hands on a Boss 302 from 1970 that would be the ultimate

An 86 302 will only give you 139HP @3400rpm and 250lb Torque @2600rpm. That is stock ratings, based on factory heads, intake and EFI. You could potentially build it up to what ever you want by changing the cam and heads, better intake and good carburation. If you already have a 86 at your disposal then use that. But if your hunting for a motor, try to get one of the older ones.

Carburated is fine, especially for an old 1960 F series truck. Do you know if the motor is a car motor or a truck motor? In 86 there is 3 different motors, 1 is a standard motor, 2 is a roller motor, and the 3rd is a HO roller motor. If you don't know get the casting number off the block, its usually located on the passenger side down by the starter. The starter will have to be removed to see the number, it should look something like this... E6OE-6015-AB.
