inline 300 question
Hi: Can someone tell me if for the 1985 F150 300 6cyl it came with a so called heavy duty engine or not and if so how can you tell? Also on the dipstick of the same vehicle there are 2 marks. One says safe level and the other is a circle just above it. Do you know where to bring the oil level, to the top of add mark or a little further to the circle?

inline 300 question
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 08-Jan-02 AT 12:49 PM (EST)]There was no heavy duty 300 I6 engine there was the heavy duty package that came with quad shock up front the the 3" wide leaf pack in the rear, and some models larger radiators, a 9" rear end instead of a 8.8" etc. But the engines the same. the safe level line is were your oil should be.

Actually there was a heavy duty version of the 300. It had forged crank, rods, and pistons, and a lower compression ratio. The timing gears were different too. I don't think the HD was still available in 1985, though. Do a search in the Inline Six forum and you should find some more info.
