I'm about todo a tune-up on my 1996For bronco XLT 351W and was woundering what the spark plug gap is,I woul know what it is if the owner before me didnt rip of the spec chart under the hood to paint the inside of the hood but any way was also woundering what the best (Preformance wise) spark plugs and wires would be thanks
on mine its 44 thou or 1.1mm in French which is a '92 302. Seems huge to me compared to all the other vehicles I have had. Has anyone found a deviation from the book at works better?
your spark plug gap should be .052-.056 I set my plugs at 0.55 , I use standard Autolite spark plugs with Ford Motorsport 9mm. wires you can buy the wires at Summit Racing for $39.95 in blue
A bigger gap means a bigger spark. If the system can produce sufficient voltage to jumb that gap without misfire, you get lower emissions, better economy and more power. As a side note, multi-ground-electrode plugs dont give more sparks, just theoretically last longer.
hmm if it wasn't such a bitch to get to them on my Bronco I'd try opening them up a bit and see if it improves my economy - at $6.53/gal I need all I the mpg I can get ;-)

that is way to much gap for a stock ignition. .44 is the correct gap for your plugs. only if you were running an msd coil and or 6Abox would you gap your plugs that much.
just did a rebuild and specs in the manuel i was using said .42 - .46 so i put it at .44 it should also tell you specs on the sticker on the air cleaner with the vacuum diagram if you have one
Plug gap should be listed on the Emission diagram sticker under the hood. Usually on the radiator support. Should have engine size listed and type of emissions installed at the fatory.
Chilton's Manual (Manual #26664) Page 1-30 says plug gap 0.044
Haynes Manual (Manual #36058) Page 1-3 says plug gap 0.044
Both manuals have a note that says to refer to the Emission Control Label in the engine compartment, and to use the values on the label if different from the manual.
Emission Control Label in engine compartment says spark plug gap is .052-.056
had a look on the sticker at the weekend - its on the bottom of the hood on my truck so you have to read it sort of upside down. Anyhow, it says .042-0.046.
