Hello all, I have a 1971 F100 360 manual (4 speed with granny) sport custom.
Just wanted to know if there are any high flow exhaust manifolds that would fit this engine. I don't want to do headers (will not, will not do them) and just wanted something to let the engine breathe a little better.
Is there a manifold that I can scavenge off a later engine that would work better than my stock exhaust manifold?
The 75 truck exhaust manifolds, they have ribs on the outside are bigger than the 2 x 4 logs and flow better. I had a set on the 68 that I gave away and installed headers. Ran headers 18 years on the last motor without replacing any part. Why you against headers, they work better than those iron logs?
Thanks for the information. It stands to reason that the later 360s had better exhaust manifolds. I think I'll try looking at the bone yard and seeing what they have. When do you think was the last year for the 360/390 that would have usable manifolds for my 71?
I'm against headers for the all too common reasons : 1)hard to put in and a pain to take off if they don't fit right, 2) I had a set that i had to remove everytime I wanted to change the starter 3)they get too hot and burn up the starter 4) they take up a lot of space 5)they just always looked "cheap" to me etc etc
I do agree with you that they help with gas mileage and look cool, sound cooler.
I think the biggest issue is having to take them off all the time for unexpected reasons....
For good flow cast manifolds try looking for a set of 406/427 stock cast manifolds. I have seen them in the Dearborn Classics cadalog, run about $650 new. Or look at the swap meets for some used ones.
