what do i need?
hi all. i am interested in getting a powerstroke.. doubt i need it, but i love the way it sounds with that two tone whistle noise when you power up and down.. anyways. what would be the better engine? i like little sporty and compact look, so does it come in an extended cab w/ short bed? instead of ocean-liner size? i know that kinda defeats the idea of having work space with power. im hoping for a 99-03. let me know what you all think.

There are some new 04's still on the lots. Have a dealer do a dealer search.
The 04's had some factory mods, better than the 03's. 'Down pipe, injectors and such'. The 02 or older will be the 7.3 liter power stroke. A great out of production engine. Late 03 and on will be the 6.0. The 6.0 has more power where you need it. Beware of some "lemon" used trucks on the lots. They might not have qualified for the lemon law or buy back, so some people just dumped them off. You're safest with a late 7.3. You're still quite safe with an 04 or newer 6.0. There's a transmission recall for some 03/04/05's? for the automatic torque shift. Beware. Otherwise, these are some great trucks. I really like my 6.0/6spd. Until last fall, I was looking for used 01-03's. But the price for a new 04 with 0% financing won me over. By the $$'s it is cheaper. Try the dealer search for a new 04 still on the lot. Ask for a dealer trade if it's not near you.

ok thanks for the great info, is the 04 a different body style? i cant remember. i really like the look of the super dutys 99-03 ?? yes i agree that the prices for newer seem to be a better deal than used! one of the local dealers has a rebate for the new 05 trucks, so in the end you get it for $20,000, but i just dont like the new look. the sides are too square, like a van or something, and i think that the windows are too high profile, it makes it look like a car with the headlights.. maybe thats just me. i am in Tri-Cities.
