Hello,
I have a '98 Ranger 3.0 4x2 and the front is starting to make a creaking noise when I drive over bumps. I got underneath it and pulled down on the bumper to hear the noise better. I seems to be coming from the left front lower ball joint. I also noticed that the rubber boot is ripped up as well. I am pretty sure that this is what is causing the noise but could it be anything else.
Thank you.
JM
If the boot is torn, you can pretty much assume the ball joint is causing the noise. It doesn't take much dirt and crud to ruin them. It sure could be something else like an upper joint, tie rod end, etc. You will just need to check everything thoroughly to make sure.
