Ran fine when I left work, stopped and let it idle for about five minutes then pulled out to the road with very low power. I had the computer reflashed at the dealership on Saturday, to get ready for a new bully dog chip that is in the mail. But I don't think that is causing the problem. It makes only about 3-4 lbs of boost until it is reved past 2,500 rpms. Then it will jump up to around 16 lbs, but still seems gutless. Ont he freeway it will only go 50 mph in top gear, won't speed up unless I down shift and hold the r's high. Doesn't smoke and no engine light. I checked the boost hoses at the "y" and at the inter cooler. They are tight.
I think it could be two things. Failing TPS or stuck ebpv. Does anybody have any ideas on how to check the ebpv to see if it is stuck? Any thoughts at all?
I'm going to check the archives but please post if you can help, I really depend on this truck for work. Thanks.
You may want to check your HPOP oil level and verify that your fuel pressure is adequate. If you are in Vancouver you may be able to observe the EBPV actuator and linkage before the truck is started and after. If the valve is not moving it will look the same hot or cold. Also keep in mind that the EBPV will change the sound of the exhaust. Mine is very obvious when it cycles. You may or may not have one on your truck (mine does-97) but there is also a EBP sensor that runs off of the passenger side exhaust manifold. The sensor is hooked to a piece of tubing that is known to get plugged. Many people report that changing the tube is easier than cleaning it. Hope this helps.
Doesn't really sound like a TPS to me. The first thing I would do is check the air and fuel filters. If they are good you can reach the EBV actuator rod reasonably well if you remove the cold side CAC tube. Slide the clip back (towards the turbo) on the actuator rod and the rod will drop down. You will then be able to move the butterfly by hand, it should move through it's 90* arc freely with no obstructions/resistance. Might be the EBPS too, but it will normally trigger the SES light.
I think if the backpressure valve isn't stuck, it sounds like a fuel quality or delivery problem.
Thanks for the tips, but guess what I drove it to my other job and it ran fine. I don't understand why.
BTW it has a brand new fuel filter, and a kwik air filter. I'm in Vancouver Washington, only down to about 40* when it acted up. It has a straight pipe on it so I can hear when the ebpv is activated in the mornings. I didn't hear it today when it acted up, guess that is ruled out.
Well today I got my bully dog 6 way chip installed and it works great except on the stock setting, still have the no power problem. So does this sound like maybe a computer program problem? This started after I had it reflashed. It seems to have full stock power on the stock setting, or with the chip unplugged for about 2-3 seconds after I mash the pedal then it drops off. I guess I should put a filter in it and I will check the hpop oil level. Does the hpop get oil from the motor? How could it get low?
Well I got it all fixed today. That chip was for a automatic tranny. Said so right on the box- DOH!! I took the chip down to 4 wheel parts where I bought it and the salesperson reprogramed it right there, took about five minutes. Now it has way more power then I ever expected.
