Front Spring lift

Hello Again: This is a very helpful forum. Anyway my question is, I want to raise the front end of my 85 F150 4x4 6cyl by only one inch and I don't have alot of cash. Has anyone used those spring boosters that have the clamps that go into the coils with bolts that you tighten to get the tension with any success. I do not want to break a coil over this. Has any one heard of a rubber spacer for ford that can go at the top since this would be the easiest installation?

Thanks, Mike

You can use stuff in the springs, but those things your talking about are noisy and you may not have enough room to put them in. Also, if you have inspections in your area, they may make a fuss about them being in there. You have to be careful about lifting a twin-I-beam like this because it will make the top of the tires stick out, although an inch is not too much, you still would risk outside edge tire wear unless you got it aligned afterward. In other words, some things are not cheap to do.

If you raise the front (with springs), you will have to realign the front wheels. Raising will throw off your camber. The only way to get it back is to buy an off center bushing kit to straighten it up. That will cost you at least $100 with installation.

I have 6" of lift on my 86' and you will have to get a camber and regular alignment. The camber might not because an inch isn't much plus other factors in the suspension might be sagged or out of alignment and it all negates, but don't expect that, figure for a camber alignment and if the shop tells you it isn't needed hey go get something else for the truck. Do Not!!! use spring spacers the are illegal up front in most states and they don't work, do the job right and use springs all the major lift kit companies make them.Good luck (hope you don't get like me I started at 2" and am now siting 9" taller than stock tires+lift).
