Intercooler, How much HP gain?

Hi, Just a quick question. Does anyone know how much HP and/or torque increase an intercooler adds to a PSD. I'm planning on adding one to my 96 PSD from a bone yard if it's worth the $$.

The companies that sell them probably boost the actual numbers, so I was curious if anyone has actually measured the difference (ie Dyno pulls)

Thanks,
JIM

I have one my '96, but I have not dyno'ed it. Most on the forum say it add's little, if any, HP. However it will lower your EGT's when you have your foot in it, and allow you to keep your foot down longer. I tow a trailer, and I appreciate the lower EGT's.

A inter cooler won't give much power. It will free up egt's so you can dump more fuel into your truck. Most from what I have seen with old body style don't need a inter cooler unless your upgrading to larger injectors. Unless your egt's are high, or your planning on bigger injectors in the future, I don't think it would be worth the $$$.

intercooler wont add any power will just keep the power you had when the intake temps were low average running on flat ground 80 degree weather 55 mph runs about 300 degrees, running up a 6% grade under same conditions intake temps can come up around 500-600 degrees dependant on how hard your running, what the ic does is lowers the intake temps so your getting a denser air charge which means more power, and like itfox said then you can dump more fuel also. i think its definately worth the money if you tow. i notice a increase in fuel mileage after the ic went it, it was only like 1-2 mpg but on a 3000 mile run with the trailer it adds up.

Thanks all for all the replys. I tow about 8000 lbs 5-6 times a year, seems like the cost wouldn't justify the $$ unless the Mileage really picked up.

BareBack: WOW! 500-600 degrees in the intake. That's incredable. Have you actually measured those kind of temps?

Thanks again,

but from what i have read, it will not actually ad power persay, but will allow you to run a hotter chip w/ more fuel and timing. so that is where the extra power comes in.

i am also looking into it myself. but not too keen on chopping holes in my radiator support.

if it runs cooler... then you can ad a hotter chip w/ out watching the pyro all the time and burning her up.
good luck man!
