Good question .
It would be nice to quantify how much cleaner engine oil from 6.0 with egr unplugged.
I have done oil sampling with oilguard on oil WITH EGr connected.
I've skpped a few samples so now that mine has been unplugged for a while i'll post back when i get my next sample back to report any changes.

This is from the API site on CI-4 oil.
It is supposed to handle the additional soot introduced by the EGR.
Introduced September 5, 2002. For high-speed,
four-stroke engines designed to meet 2004
exhaust emission standards implemented in
2002. CI-4 oils are formulated to sustain
engine durability where exhaust gas
recirculation (EGR) is used and are intended
for use with diesel fuels ranging in sulfur
content up to 0.5% weight. Can be used in
place of CD, CE, CF-4, CG-4, and CH-4 oils.

I'm not as trusting as i used to be so if i can pre-empt trouble with my baseless assumptions i usually do.
