I run a 93 F150 302 E4OD with a 3.08 8.8 rear differential. I want to identify whether it is an open dif or a limited slip unit and the problem is that there is no I.D. tag attached to the cover. Does the axle code on the sticker in the door jamb signify which type it is? It only says 19 which is the 3.08 gear. Occasionally on gravel the truck has dug ruts with both tires however it has never spun with both on such surfaces as wet grass and dry pavement. I will be swapping the gears out for 3.73's very soon so i will find out once i pop off the cover, i was just looking for a heads up opinion. Thanks in advance..
Usually, on the door sticker, if you have 2 numbers, it's an open diff. If it has a letter followed by a number than it's a limited slip. For example you'd have a 19 for a 3.55 8.8" open diff versus H9 for the same 3.55 8.8" but with a limited slip. (19 BTW, comes up as a 3.55 not a 3.08. 3.08 is 18 for open diff or H8 for LS. My 1994 F150 300/E4OD had a code 18 and the axle tag said 3 08. If it had had an LS, the axle tag would have said 3L 08.)
