propane gas gauge

Hello well my gas guage on my truck doesnt work.
its on propane,the tank is in the back,
its a 86 f150 4x4 short box 300 i6 4 speed
I think the switch in the heater control box to flip from from tank to back tank is faulty so what i would like to do is by pass this as i only have 1 tank (propane) what wire do i hook up directly to the propane tank to make it work?
Also when it does work it is inaccurate is ther anyway to make it more accuarate. it always reads less than i accually have.
