Carb
I played with this setup on my 84 and went back to the feedback carb because it got better fuel economy. I could never seem to get the right air fuel ratio by tweaking the needle and seat.
I've had lots of different YFA carbs on my 85. The best thing you can do is to trash the TFI ingnition. Go to the junk yard and unplug/cut out a couple of wire harnesses from a pre EEC(Computer) trucks that have the Duraspark system. I did this five years ago. I got 2->3 harnesses, coils and modules for less than $10 at a yard.
I Invested $70 in a rebuilt dizzy, new cap, rotor, and wires. I first hooked up all the junk yard stuf as a test. It started right up and ran great. I later replaced the coil with a MSD, and thought to replace the module. But why bother ? It runs better than new and gets 18 MPG on the highway. It never got that !
One of the best carbs I had was recomended by a rebuilder when I converted over. It was for an E350. His numbers were FT1022c. I've tried to get another but I haven't found anyone that can identify that number, and the rebuilder has since gone out of business. I now have a NEW! YFA I got on EBAY from CarbLab in Kenosha,WI 262-694-4710. It runs a little leaner now but I probably get 20MPG.
