yeah I knew a guy once who had a rc helecopter. I've heard that just flying one period is like trying to hold a ball in your hand and balance another on top of it. but he saw a guy in competition take off and imediatly flip forward and fly it around upside down.
Yes it is possible and he is no amature. It takes tons of practice and many crashes to get his skill level. I fly RC Pattern planes and enjoy watching the rotary wings.
Your question is this possible? .....he is using negative pitch in the main rotor unlike a real helicopter which uses zero to positive pitch only.
Aside from the experts comments that it is real, you can also follow the exhaust trail as evidence that the chopper is really doing what it appears to be doing.
Well, the one thing that really seemed to get me was the rapid changing of direction... I mean, I've seen MANY guy's who are "good" but it's just something about this video that strikes me as a little "tricky"... perhaps the video has been sped up??
I believe it is real. It is very impressive flying. I think one of the things that allows these kinds of maneuvers in addition to the negative pitch capablity is the fact that the ratio of the strength of the rotor blade to the weight of the model is much higher compared to a real helicopter. In other words, the model is so light that is is probably possible to suspend the model (non-running) between two chairs by the rotor blade and not damage the blade. In a real helicopter the blade would fold up of course.

From the helo's I have seen it is in real time and they crash quicker than eye can follow. When I watched the video he had one good save that almost cost him the craft.
If this was a real aircraft the pilot would have scrambled eggs for a brain from the G forces. Physical limitations do not apply to RC aircraft.
yeah, its possible. i fly RC planes when my dad has a new one that he hasn't demolished yet. i've seen a few good Heli pilots, but damn, thats the best i've seen. its interesting to watch the main rotor blades and how with the forces they speed up an slow down so fast. i wonder how much $$ he has in that one....i give not only props the the pilot, but the cameraman....WOW.
At one point I think I saw the tiny little RC pilot barfing through his empty eye sockets.
That was insane. No human pilot would survive those manoeuvers & I wonder if a full-size RC helicopter could even be built that could withstand the g-loading.
Hats off to the pilot
I don't think I could manage straight level flight in one of those things, much less that insanity.
He is one of the best I have ever seen and I took notice that he uses one gallon of fuel a day to train himself......to use one gallon is a lot of flying time.
