After my truck has been sitting over night it takes awhile to start the next morning. The temperature here is around 50 and my glowplugs are new and cycle great. It cranks over for about 5-7 seconds sometimes longer especially when it was 30 degrees out. After it fires up the engine sounds like crap... it just is barly idling and shaking the whole truck. There is some white smoke that comes out of the tailpipe followed by blue smoke if i rev her up. After a minute or after it warms up everythings fine. If I start it up after it's been sitting only for a few hours it's fine. Starts up fast. But If I let it sit... especially overnight it's more difficult. Seems like it's hard on the starter to do this all the time.
I was wondering if there is air in the fuel system? How can I test this? How do I know when I need to replace my IP pump or injectors? Truck has 205 thousand miles on it. Thanks for the help
what year truck is it? the white smoke is compressed fuel that has not ignited, which is more common on older trucks at start-up. If you were getting air in your fuel system the engine would run "rough" all the time, but more pronounced at an idle.
most newer trucks have a "constant" glow - glow plug. the glow plug relay keeps the glowplug on even after starting, and after "wait to start" light goes out.
did you guys get any codes to know that it was the control moduel or the gpr? just wondering if any codes came up because im having a simillar problem but dealer tested my truck and no codes so they sent me on my way.
Dealer tested glow plugs and the gpr - plugs OK and gpr failed. Not sure about any codes - traveling this week and I don't have access to the paperwork.
