Now that I finally got my Predator tune in my truck my speedometer is about
10 mph faster than actual speed. It worked fine before. My STX package includes 17" wheels and 3.55 gears, How do I get the speedo back in sync with the real speed. Also, once we get our flash tunes in the truck, do we have to keep going back to the website for further updates or only do that if we have a problem?
Thanks, Vicky
You should only update the Predator if you're having a specific problem it addresses or if it has features you want. Basically, if it's not broken don't fix it.
As to speedo, it sounds like a calibration code specific issue, but I don't know what vehicle you have or what the calibration id is from the passenger side door frame.
I had to change mine to on my 2001 F150. The 265/70R17 tires are about 31.7 inches tall. Use this figure and do the formula in the instructions to change the rev per mile. Mine was way high showing the speedo slow. Change the rev per mile setting (under modify tune), I believe it is about 640?? and change the axle ratio to what you have. Mine has 3.55"s so I used the 3.54 setting. Speedo is dead on now.
Periodic updates sometimes add more features to the tuner. It also adds more calibrations to work with more vehicles. Right now 7R52m is the latest update. It isn't a needed, it will work fine without updating, it just may give you more options in the future.
Well thanks for the answers Ken and Jimmy. I think I figured out how to modify the axle ratio, I was a little afraid before to mess things up. The Diablo tune showed 3.08 as the axle ratio and changed it to 3.54 as my truck has 3.55 gears. Took it out on the highway and the speedometer seemed to me to be back to normal. Very easy to do and I don't think I screwed anything up. Is there a way to modify the shift points so it doesn't shift from 1st to 2nd so soon? The truck goes about 10mph and shifts too quickly for my liking. It has shifted this way ever since it was new, nothing wrong just the way the trannies were made to shift, I guess. Very nice product, it just took from Oct. to Feb. to get a tune worked up for my particular code.
Thanks in advance, Vicky (ODAL1DG)
Well, I am in the same boat as you on the shift points. I was told by Diablosport that it is available, but I updated to the latest revision and it's still not there. I sent them my calid again and they are supposed to be fixing the problem. It will be listed under "MPH shift point" if you have it. If not, go to the Diablosport website and see if you have the latest revision. If so, then go to the tech support and send them a message with the calid and revision number and ask them about the availability for your calid.
Here is the latest reply after asking the same question 5 or 6 times :
"At the moment our engineering department is over loaded with new products and the mph shift function in fords is quite complex and would require some time to implement. I would recommend that you get a custom tune done with this change. That would be your quickest and easiest solution right now as we are unsure if or when we will add part throttle shift mph.
Thank you for your interest in DiabloSport!
Stay tuned,"
So evidently, it's gonna be awhile. SCT supposedly already has this option.
They have since told me that I can get a custom program to get it to adjust the part throttle shift points. I am awaiting a reply from Motorhaven on how to order this program.
