OK, so I was driving down the road the other day and the hood on my '87 F-150 4X4 comes open at 70 mph. The hinges did a great job and stopped the hood from hitting the cab, the only damage I can see is that the hood is now flat. I took all the hardware off and laid it in place to try and see any bends, and the only lines that don't line up are right in the middle (it is now flat instead of bowed).
Anyone have any ideas how I can bend it back into shape? Anyone know what the height is supposed to be in the middle when the sides are flat on the ground? It looks like it only needs about an inch.
About an inch sound right. You don't necessary have to restore it to the factory shape, just as long as the slight curvature of the hood is restored and consistant to itself - if you know what i mean.
If there are no creases, it usually can be popped back with a wooden body hammer, and skimmed with body filler on top if you dent it from below by beating on it too much.
What's the chances of attaching a picture, top and bottom from a slight angle?
