Grooved rotors.. normal?

I just checked my rotos and they seem a tad bit grooved, nothing much, just a little bumpy surface on the rotors. It sorta looks/feels like the side of cds stacked on a spindle. Anyone know if this is normal? I asked the mechanic changing out my sisters brake pads and he said that my break pads might have too much metal in them? What the... any advice would help, thanks!

Mine are also grooved, but I still have plenty of pad left. 26K miles, '04 XLT. I am also wondering why, but the truck doesnt shudder or anything, drives/stops fine.

after reading this post, I went and checked....

and my rotors also have the bumpy feeling to them. You CAN actually see the small grooves. Although the grooves seem worse on the rear wheels... My truck has 36K miles, original brakes pads and rotors. I have no problems with stopping.... I wonder what this is?
