If Your Headers Have A Thin Flange, No Amount Of Gaskets Will Stop A Leak. The Thin Flanges Of Low Quality Headers Warp And Bend Causing The Leaks. If Your Existing Headers Are Good Quality, Get Some Good Copper Gaskets.
I am having same problem with the headers on my bronco, make sure to run thru the bolts again and retighten them. the metal flexes and contracts when heated and cooling down.
Not sure of header manufacture or quality. bought as is.re-tightened bolts after a day or so and seemed to help but still has small leak.someone told me once about running no gaskets, having ports filed to smooth,is this true?
The factory manifolds run no gaskets, but they are machined flat surfaces, any defect and it'll leak, they're also cast iron.
I bought some good gaskets off ebay. I forget who I got them off of and how I found them, but I can tell ya what they are when I get home. They may provide a good seal in this situation because they're not a typical copper like gasket. I don't know what it's made out of, but it looks like shinny aluminum on the outside. They're got some "squish" to them when you tighten it down, and they're advertised as re-useable.
thanx for info. just found some copper gaskets on ebay for 15$.same at jc whitney were 50 with shipping so i'll try em.think they will work cause last set of paper i put on almost did it.leak is small, but drives me nuts.
I personally think the aluminum gaskets are better than the copper but that's just my experience. The aluminum gaskets have alot more give to them that helps seal off imperfections that the header flange might have.
