Hi, I'm new to the '61-'66 (I've owned several '67-'72s though) and I have a question about hoods. I know they are prone to rusting on the leading edge and a truck I'm looking at is no different. So, my question is what years are interchangeable with the '61s? And what is different in the looks?
I have been trying to conduct a search for the last 2 hours, but it keeps giving me the server too busy to search reply. It will (obviously) let me post though. Thanks
all hoods from 61-66 are identical except for possbly trim. The 61-64 are the same body and the 65-66 are the same. 61-63 have the same bed (same as the 60 I think) except of course the Uni. Most of the differences deal with frame mounting. 4x4 is different from 2x4 in many ways even in the same year. 65-66 intro'd Twin-I-Beam.
This is a uni and I wanted to shave the hood anyway, so trim is not really a concern. Thanks everyone for the responses. Now to find a '61-66 hood. Anyone? Didn't see any in the FS section.
I wouldn't think it would be hard to find one near you getting parted out. BTW, the trim was an option, so find one without and you'll have a lot fewer holes to fill.
Thanks Sam. From what I hear (here and elsewhere) this can be a hard item to find (rust and dent free). Having so many years interchangeable will help though. I will make a few calls locally and see what comes up.
Shave the hood? I suppose anything is possible, but the whole structure of the hood is along its lower edge, along the front and sides. You cut that off and you may as well just have a sheet of floppy tin.
I would say that if you want to expereiment with a flatter hood, then you may as well take one that already has some rust and cut that up. Or you should consider one of the fiberglass aftermarket ones out there.
CD, by shaving he means remove all the chrome/holes for chrome, I believe.
here's a hood on ebay, btw : http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=34204
