Wiring Woes
Could I please get a little advice from anyone about rewireing my 60, Do I look for a complete or partial wiring kit, is there such a kit on the market for my 1960 six cylinder? or do I find someone with a bit more talent and a lot more patience than I ? thanks
Another question I HAVE , I there a good kit on the market that will sound proof the cab of my truck, or is that something that carpeting, headliners and door paneling pervides? Thank you for your time, Billy304

Sound proofing
Hi billy304,
I am about to do some major work on my 60 and have been considering methods for soundproofing as well.
The biggest places you are going to get noise is from inside the front fenders, through the doors and the engine firewall.
I have read that applying a liberal amount of rubberized undercoating inside the fenders will dampen a lot of sound. The noise of the tires rolling on the pavement is amplified going through that large tub of fender and the vibration comes in through the body so putting undercoating on the inside of the fender helps to reduce the amount of sound reflection inside the fender well and to deaden the amount of vibration of the metal so it does not transmit through the body as well.
The same can be said for the inside of your doors. Adding an insulator that reduces sound reflection and dampens vibration will do a lot. Making sure you have good window and door seals goes a long way as well.
The big question is how to dampen sound coming from the engine compartment. If I can find some of that thick foil covered pad that might make a good heat/sound insulator on the firewall. Will be a lot of work to get it clean in there and cut/mount the padding to fit so it will look good. Probably not a project I will get done this year. I am more concerned with getting the engine/tranny in place and running and possibly replacing the bed with a stepside.
Good luck on your project. Not too many of us 60s around.

I recently installed an EZ Wire harness in my 51. I was going to do an install from scratch but when I priced a fuse block. And the rolls of wire I needed the $160.00 for the EZ harness didn't seem all that bad. I'm really happy with the way it turned out.
