Lift pump normal??

OK I did a lift pump test to see if it could be my starting problem. Here is what I found.

Presure about 2-3 lbs
did a volume test and it seemed ok.
Then I was woundering what I was going to do with the fuel in the jar. Well it sucked it all back into the system.
So I tend to think the check valve system in the lift pump is shot.

Make sense?

Or due to the fact that fuel was available with no restriction to go back into the filter head, the fuel return system passed it back to the tank,

It takes about 10 cranks in the morning to get started. if shut down less than 3 min. will start right up. if I leave it more than 5min-8hr. it cranks and cranks then alittle try and alittle again finally it kicks over and purrs like nothing is wrong. It's cranking alittle slow but, it does not seem to bother it in the morning or withing 3 min. I just don't want to pay $150 for a starter & not have it work. I got 1/3 bottle (tabasco sauce)of fuel in about 10sec of cranking. but I'm not sure about pressure about 2-3lbs with a tire gauge.

Did another test with the fuel return line crimped. Fuel did not get siphoned back to tank. after 10 sec cranking I got 3oz of fuel.

If you think lift pump is shot remove the lift pump line at the filter, fill it with diesel and see if it drains back. That being said, that means maybe the LP check valve is bad, and if it is draining back then there is another air leak into the system to allow it to drain.

How big was the Tabasco bottle in ozs you need 1/3 pint or 5 ozs+. You need a vacuum/pressure guage cost about $10.
