Ford's new 3.5l V6 is set to debut in a year or so. It is a fully modern design, DOHC, 4 valves per cylinder, all aluminum, variable valve timing, coil over ignition, etc etc. This engine can ultimatley be punched out to 3.8, or possibly even 4.0l according to Ford. This could be a fantastic truck engine. Imagine a 300 hp 300 lb-ft of torque, base V-6. Far better than the 202 hp the current 4.2l makes; and much more competitive with Toyota and Nissan's new truck powerplants (Nissan's new 4.0l V6 makes 285 hp!). But sadly, Ford will probably tune the thing for 30 less hp than the competition. They always seem to be behind (behind for horsepower that is. Personally I would much rather have hp than torque, but I don't tow anything so I don't need as much torque).
Yea, the problem is that when you increase the HP that high, the tq. dont get high till you rev up. The V6 is usually in work trucks, so it probably would have more tq. than Hp anyways.
I thought the Nissan 4.0L made 265hp in the Frontier and 270 in the new...err whatever that SUV is called. And I think the Altima 3.5L makes 260? Last I read the Ford 3.5L will be 250hp.

Yeah you're probably right. But since I do no towing, and only carry light loads a high hp, high winding V6 would be kinda cool. Probably get better gas mileage too.
