Mike
ps - know of a good low cost manual for the basics??
First off, i'm asuming by your user name you have an 89 f150. if i am correct, you will be happy to know that both chiltons and haynes have manuals for this year and model. I have haynes manual and have yet to use it to extensivly, read through it. I came across an electronic chiltons manual, but i opted for the hayes strictly because i'd rather have a book in front of me. i'm sure chilton also ofers a book manual. i'll end up with both manuals eventually. From experience with a jeep i used to have, the haynes manual did a good job with basic work.
The switch might be in the gear selector switch-inside the steering column. I tried using the Haynes manual to quickly find it, with no luck...I found the switch but it wasn't on the page and section of the schematic they said it was. I had to hunt it down, page by page. That will give you an idea how accurate or helpful the Haynes manual is. I hope you just blew fuse #4 in the interior fuse panel.
On my C6 tranny, there is a neutral saftey switch that is out of adjustment. My wiring and everything else is okay. But no reverse lights. Doubt your 89 has the C6. I do not know if there is such a device on yours, but just some food for thought.
