Alright boys, I got the 4.2L engine and I took my truck to an exhaust/muffler shop last May of 2004 and had my muffler cut off and then a single pipe exiting out the right side before the rear tire (like a lightning).
I want to cut all 4 cats off and run straight pipes. Do you guys think it'd be alot louder than what it is now? Would it be worth it?
dude really? i fugured you'd know the answer to this one.
yes. tons louder. are you putting a muffler back on it?
my idea of a sick exhaust would be 2 hiflows and a good muffler, FM40 of course. or no cats, and the FM.....but i think the diff between no cats and 2 hi-flows is minimal, so you'd might as well throw on the hi-flows (like catco-cheap!) and save the trees. Throw on some headers and you're good to go. Add a cam......
Anyhow, i say go with 2 catcos....but we don't want to start that whole cat/no cat pollution debate again.....
lol, well I knew the answer that it will be a heck of alot louder, but I just wonder how it will sound? I don't want it to sound like a rice burner or any higher pitched than it is now...
Any what effects will it have on my engine if I run just two 12" glasspacks, no cats, no muffler or anything else besides two glasspacks??
I only have 46K miles and I don't want my engine life to decrease alot..do you guys think that will happen?
Well, unless you get a tune or chip for the cats not being there, you will throw a smog code or something like that. I'm personally against running straight pipes, so I say throw to high-flows on and then do whatever you want.
If you truelly want a cool exhaust sound...save up for a cam and upgrade to a 207/215 with a 110lca. Sounds wicked with a nice set of heads to match, and true dual warlocks...trust me.
I have a question. What's the deal with generating as much volume as possible?
"Loud Pipes Save Lives"
I go either way. For my truck, it'll definitely be getting louder, faster, and faster-cornering within the upcoming years.
For my Navigator (which i will one day have), I'd slap on a blower, but i'd probably get the quitest exhaust i could find. Faster is always better, but i wouldnt want a luxury SUV sounding like a rocket ship!
I need to switch to a Warlock. My flowmaster sounds awesome inside the cab, but it's like nothing on the outside, plus it's more restrictive than the Warlock is. (obviously)
i thought about that myself but i've heard such good things about the flowmaster and a few negative things about the warlock - durabilty/build/casing-wise.
Huh? I couldn't hear you over all the loud pipes.... Just kidding, but seriously, I undestand a better quality sound, but more is not better, not to me anyway. To each his own.
For a while, I had cats only, a y-pipe and dual outlets out the back. Drove me crazy. It was just plain annoying.
Matter of fact, the Flowmaster 40 series SI-Do I put on the 2005 is louder than I'd like. But, it's tolerable.
No cats and straight pipes would get you lots of attention -the kind you don't want or need. (flashing blue lights)
