Hi, heres my problem. I have a 1992 F-150 on propane with a bad engine. The body is fair , it's fully loaded and 4WD with 330,000 KM, I want to sell it as I have kids and it is only a 3 seater. I also have a 1986 F-150 reg cab 4wd that runs good, has 210,000 KM and the body is shot. The suspension lift and tires from this 86 will eventually be put on my 1980 Bronco.
Do I,
A. put the 86 motor into the 92, and hope it goes well ( the wiring harness, plenums and lots of other stuff is different. (will require lots of gaskets and other minor costs)
B. Rebuild the 92's motor and advertise it with a fresh rebuilt motor.
C. Find a wrecker/donor 302 and drop it in (These trucks are so year dependent it seems that what-fits-what without alot of extra work is very important)
D. sell the 92 "as is, needs motor"
I am working out of a carport and have the necessary tools but not the time or weather.
I'd pull the engine on the '86 as a condition of sale for the '92. That way a buyer can hear it run. Or you can also give the buyer the option of pulling the engine and accessories from the '86 themselves, that way they are comfortable with getting all parts/pieces. List it as a project truck with available replacement engine. Only one issue, does Canada have restrictions as to emmissions and prohibit putting an older engine in a newer truck? If this is not a problem go with your project truck sale!
Tex thanks, thats a good option I never considered. No, there are no emissions problems with this swap as of yet. In Vancouver they have a program called Aircare that tests vehicle emissions but not here and I think if you went from a 92 motor to an 86-both EFI-the difference should be minimal. Besides, I'm on propane with whatever engine I choose so it will/ should pass with flying colors if I had to.
Thanks again, I will include that option with my next ad.
