Last years is going to be hard to top. I made her a heart out of 1/4" plate steel with our names on it, painted red and standing up. She said it was the best V-Day gift ever. All made up in about 25 minutes at work, because I didn't have time to go and get her something. And TOTALLY last minute "Oh God I'm Dead if I don't bring something home".
This year, I actually planned ahead. Got her her card last week, dinner reservations made 2 weeks ago, and a new necklace on hold for pickup tomorrow.
I'm setting myself up for eventual failure. That bar has to creep higher every year. Maybe next year I'll do some evil deed, and use that as the benchmark for every year after.
Valentine's day will consist of me coming home, a nice dinner getting made, then off to our own thing, at least she better make a nice dinner because I play basketball at 7:00 tonight and she can do her own thing.
I wonder if she'll be angry IF I just draw a heart (with a crayon) on a napkin?

Well, there you go. I think you are in the clear.

Well, that worked out pretty well. Mine went a little differently.
I was driving around aimlessly, when I come across a store that sells suits. So, me thinking it might be nice to take her to dinner in a nice suit, goes in.
"What are the chances I can leave this store this afternoon with a suit?" I ask.
"Why, what have you got in mind?"
"I'm taking my wife out for dinner, and I haven't worn a suit in 6 years."
"Well, I'd say your chances are pretty good."
So, they size me up, and get me a black wool suit. But no tailor to take in the pants. So they call up a local tailor for me to drop off at. No problem.
Everything works out according to plan. My wife liked the card I picked out for her. She was impressed by the potted plant, rather than the standard cut long stem roses. She loved the necklace. She was absolutely floored by the suit. And dinner was good.
So she says "You got me a lovely card, a beautiful necklace, a nice plant, got us a nice dinner, and you dressed up for me. I didn't get you anything." It's not that I was getting her anything. I was trying to give something she's not quite used to.
There I go again. Setting myself up for failure. Next year will have to be better yet again. BUT. Now I won't have to, because she didn't get me anything. And she knows it. She admitted to it. She said "Don't get me anything next year". Yeah, yeah, we'll see. At least I'll have a suit to wear.
