Processor ID Code

At some point in time you may be asked to ID your processor. It is located on the drivers side fender beside the battery.

Look for a 4-digit code. Ford has used many versions.

Some new tuners coming into the market will need to know your version.

This will allow all users posting here at FTE to track a problem. If a trend can be found it is a tool to answer why some trucks have problems not seen by other owners.

I have a picture linked to this issue for you to view.

The PCM's are definitely different from MY to MY. This would also show that Ford probably sources parts from multiple sources. Good idea in the manufacturing world.

My 2003 is visible standing at the front of the truck, I will pop the hood on a 05 and take a look.

Mine is certainly not visible from the front of the truck like the picture shows. I haven't pulled anything apart yet to look in other places, but I really will need to find it! On Mustangs they put a sticker with the code no it on the edge of the passenger door. Just couldn't make life easy for the truck guys!

Time changes rapidly. The X-Cal 2 reads your strategy, the processor is still in the same place. Re-flashes from Ford change the strategy and your technician is supposed to supply a sticker stating the latest flash. The sticker is not always found, with the X-Cal 2 no guess is involveld.

No, that isn't correct. You need to have the Processor Code to write programs. I've owned the SCT Racer Pro package since it was released in 2002. I am also currently using the XCal-2 for my Stang programming and DA. I'm not just loading a program a dealer sends me, I actually have the ability to write my own programs just as a dealer does.

Would like to add, SCT is an EXCELLENT product IMHO. With it I've been able to self dyno-tune my car to produce over 750 HP at the flywheel. This is by using the stock ford EEC for spark and fuel control. The car has perfect driveability and get 16mph around town even with my rather heavy foot. You can really do some amazing things with the SCT products. I'm really looking forward to doing some tweeking on my PSD.

So you can plug in your Xcal and go to some part of the menu and have it read-out BKG9? Can you tell me what menu?

Ok X-Cal 1 will not do it.....just thought I would cover that
If your familiar with X-Cal 2 scroll down....it says read strategy-then select
Your X-Cal is Vin locked so you need another for the truck, just to save you the head-ache if you didn't know.

Ok X-Cal 1 will not do it.....just thought I would cover that Yes I know. I use the X2. The 1 was just a programmer. You had to use a Raptor with it for DA.

If your familiar with X-Cal 2 scroll down....it says read strategy-then select What you get there is a 10 Digit stradegy code, not a 4 digit processor code, right?

Your X-Cal is Vin locked so you need another for the truck, just to save you the head-ache if you didn't know. Yes, I know the programming function is locked to one car unless you program that car back to stock and clear the unit. Then you can use it on another car. This can be done three times. FYI, you can still use it for data acquisition on other cars, reset DTCs, etc.

Thats what you want...the 10 digit code. I just wanted to make sure on everything so no confusion was around. Have fun doing the truck. I have never done multiple vehicles so the racer pro package is where I stop, not sure what you have to do now.

It can be a PITA at times

No, the 10 digit code isn't what you need to write a program. It's the 4-Digit EEC Code you need. Yes I know it can be a pain, and I've stepped in most of the holes, but the results far outweigh the complications.
