4.6 oil

97 4.6 with 100k miles.running 10w40 now.is this appropriate viscosity up here in Illinois weather? Thanks..

I would use a 5W-something. These engines need oil to the top of the engine fast at start-up. 5W-30 would be better.

I have never used anything other than 5w-30 (ford recommended) and just turned over 210,000 miles.
Starting to use a small amount of oil but still have plenty of power.
