I went to the local parts store to get prices for rotors and pads for my 99 f-350. There were a bunch of products and options, but one question I was asked was my axle ratio. Why would that matter? I have no idea what it is, but I suspect that the answer lies somewhere in my VIN. Any input?
wolfbike1500,
All I was ever asked was make/year of truck and if it had 4X4 or not. I'm not sure why axle ratio would matter. I just recently ordered and installed ART rotors and am very happy with them. They're a little pricy, but worth the money.
ART and also Carolina clutch offer product better than stock.
I'm trying some Hawk (do google search) and they sell pads and claimed high end slottted or drilled and slotted rotors.
Other than stock (dealer) and over the counter part store that's about it for stock sizing.
i have found on my own trucks the sloted work better then solid factory style and do not warp as easy. i have had cross drilled crack. mine came from stainless steel brakes . but they do not have kits for every car or truck yet. the sloted are worth the extra dollars in my mind.
They are a little pricey, but worth every penny, I love these things. I am still on my first set of ART rotors which are lasting longer than two factory sets have combined.
$400 for front rotors??? Ouch!! That's way more than a little pricey for me. How much are the factory ones? Even if they're $100, 2 more sets would probably outlast my truck... I'll probably get 80k miles out of my original set.
