I read on this forum that the 2005 F150 has a place to plug a brake controller in where it would be more sophisticated than a normal brake controller setup.
Any idea of what this is? And what type I should get?
The brake controller plug is located under the dash on the drivers sided. It is attached to a bracket right at the edge of the trim. I believe it is to the right of the steering column. It is a grey connector with 5 wires (about 3/4" x 1" rectangular shape). Get the Prodigy by Tekonsha. The cheapest I have found it is at RVWholesalers.com. I have some pics of it in my gallery.

I agree! I got mine at Rvwholesalers.com along with the dedicated harness for the Ford. It's a direct plug in and I installed mine beside the emergency brake release on a little metal plate screwed to the bottom of the dash. Looks like it was made for it as I could see no other use for it.
I just installed my brake controller on that same metal plate just to the left of the steering column. I wonder if the plate is there for trucks w/o the tow package? It was a very easy and quick install!
Ditto what they said above. I have the same controller. I paid 125 delivered to my door. Super easy to install. Plugs right in. Best brake controller I've ever used.
