Hi..I have a 99 f150 with 5.4, I do some towing when ever I go fish, and I was just wondering that, does anyone have any experience with extra capacity transmission fluid pans, I found some on ebay and they are very reasonable price, plus they have drain plugs on em which comes very handy whenever change the transmission fluid. Do they worth the money?
Well, I put a cast aluminum "Mac" on my 2001 4.6 4R70W 2WD, because I do a fair amount of towing and I wanted some extra fluid capacity, cooling fins, and the drain plug. I also wanted a temp sensor which necessitated dropping the old pan anyway (I guess I could have put the sender in-line, but I wanted it in the pan).
It is fine, but I cannot say whether it has really made any difference. Keep in mind that you will still have to drop the pan if you want to change the filter, although admittedly, its less messy if you can drain it first.
If you feel the need to improve things, I would recommend the Ford in-line transmission filter, which filters much better than the filter in the pan.

I have a experience changing my tranny pan, I think it was worth it. I found when It was time to put pan up into place in front of crossmember, I had to cut a little off the back edge to get it up there, It came with allen screws to help, but I had to put the allen wrench into a socket and use 1/4 inch drive set, also these screws are metric and ya need a metric socket. Also the filter needs some help keep'n it's place on tranny, normally it is held by the shallow pan itself.
I also installed a Tans Temp Gauge on the A piller and have a scale of how hot& for how long it can be hot b-4 damage can be done.
