my 351w is from a 69 galaxy. I have been told this is a sper block. Should I spend the $2K for a blueprinted total rebuild or buy a crate engine. I have an aod behind it with a b&m floorshift. Is there a good shift kit for this tranny? have the old 2.70 gears from the 300 that was in it. Does anyone have a good 3.50 posi 9inch?
What kind of block? And I would be careful of throwing the word "blueprinted" around. This is totally unnecessary for the street and you certainly are not going to get a "blueprinted" engine when you buy a crate motor.
I would just have her rebuilt; but I 'd make darn sure that that OLD 351 will bolt up to the bellhousing on that AOD, before I'd shell out any cash on a rebuild. I'd also make sure that the oil pan is going to clear your frame after your new mounts/perches are in. Had a mechanic friend one time swear that "this" engine will bolt right up to "that" tranny just to find out he had no idea what he was talking about.
I agree with Franklin, a blueprinted motor is overkill on a street motor. There's a lot of other mods that can be made cheaper; cam, headers, pistons, stroker kit, intake, etc..
Chevy Trucks, like a rock!
Yea, like a flat rock!
easy to break and won't roll.
Dodge Trucks, the rules have changed so we could win!
the engine is already installed. has alot of blowby though. My engine guy runs a local speed shop. So he would have it completely blueprinted and balanced and grind crank to about 356 so not too extreme. I have told him I want it reliable but a solid tire burner when I needed. It was quite a project for him to get the aod and 351 swap done last year, but I couldnt afford the rebuild at the time. I have friends that have chevy's and can buy a new 350 longblock from dealer for $1500. Just wasnt sure if that would be better option than a custom rebuild.
