Hey all...i just put in a C6 into my 74 F250 FE 360 divorced T-case and the tranny has alot of metal in the pan when i check it lastnight. I want better MPG and ive got a spare 5.0 with an AOD on it...i was thinking of puting in a HD upgrade kit in the AOD, buying a trannsmission adapter to link the AOD to my 360 and ive got the shifter figured out but since it being a divorced t-case would i need a shorter/longer drive shaft? Would i need to buy a new tail shaft?
A few measurements would answer your questions on fit and you have everything there to measure. I don't think any one has done this swap yet and I myself am not sure if an adapter is even offered. My concern would be the life of the AOD behind a 360 and to make matters worse a 4X4, heavy. Unless you spend alot of money on upgrading the trans I don't think it will last. The total cost of this type of swap will be high. how long would it take for this swap to pay itself back if you only gain 2mpg more than what you have now? I bet a couple of years worth of driving.
Lokar makes a cable to make the aod work with carbs (dad has one, cost him about 80 bucks shipped). But i would spend the money on the C6, you will spend twice as much trying to make that AOD work on that 360 then what it would cost to make that C6 bullet proof.
