Towing Mirrors Info.

Hi, new member here but a long time Ford man. Anyway, I just took off my power tow mirrors from my '99 SD and replaced them with a pair of '03 telescoping power tow mirrors since the telescoping pair slides in and the other pair was pre- telescoping and remains in the extended position. If anyone does this change out, Ford does have a pig tail which will allow the newer mirror connections, flat gray connector, to hook up with the old connector, round white cylinder type connector.I was just gonna splice them in but the connectors were kinda cheap so I just went with them. The local parts guy wasn't real helpful and it took up a lot of my time to find the part numbers but here they are if any one needs them. Oh by the way, nice site you got here!

hi guys, i have heard that when you switch out these mirrors..... the difference in the wiring connector is due to different styles of mirrors..... some trucks came stock with a mirror that will "break away", or bend in both directions, front and back, while the other just bend towards the rear. thus, there are 2 styles of plugs..... it is possible that you may have just put the opposite style on from what you had..... by the way.. how do you like the switch... i have a 99 250 sd, with the boring stockers. i want to put on manual telescoping also.

Difference in mirrors

Matt, the difference is that the stock towing mirrors didn't slide in, they just remained out in the extended position. The plug type changed in '02? however with that pig-tail connector they hooked right up. I like the telescoping mirrors because I can slide them all the way in allowing me to get in the garage without having to fold the mirrors in like I had to do with the older style. Also the new ones fold either forward or backwards as opposed to the older style which just folded backwards.
Hey Buzz Cut, sorry for the foul up, I'll alter my name so there isn't any confusion. Thanks.
Dave
