Two hoses coming out just before the air gets into the TB?

A couple weeks ago I changed the spark plugs in my 5.4, so I moved some stuff out of the way to get to them. Tonight I went to put a K&N intake on it, and I noticed that the lower line has a hard curved piece of plumbing coming out of it, and shooting back toward the back of the motor, but it doesn't hook up to anything on the other end. I presume the one that is hooked up is for the PCV system. So what's the second one? Thanks for any tips.

Lower tube...

The lower tube (smaller one) should connect to the drivers side valve cover. There should be a rubber 90 degree elbow coming out of the valve cover. Be sure to route the hose in front of the brackets and not over. Someone did this on mine and it took me a while to figure it out.
Good luck.

The tube that is still hooked up is the crankcase ventilation tube for the PCV system. It should run to the drivers side valve cover. The other tube that runs to the rear of the engine is the idle air control (IAC) valve fresh air tube (also called the throttle bypass hose in a different section of the factory manual).

On my 00 5.4, this tube is hard plastic, runs towards the rear of the engine, and curves to the left. At the point where it ends, a part that looks like a fuel filter is connected inline. I'm not sure what this part is. It could be a check valve or something similar. It's about two inches in diameter and two inches long. A straight four inch long rubber hose, about the same diameter as the input tube, then connects to the IAC valve.

The IAC valve is located directly behind the throttle body. The port the hose attaches to points to the right.

My plumbing is the same as what Hecklerboy mentioned in his post. The lower hose goes to the drivers side valve cover. The upper hose is the one that runs to the rear of the engine.

Yeah, it was the one that 90's right into the drivers valve cover. I guess I just couldn't see it last night. It took me about 15 seconds to find it just now. Just for others reference... the truck doesn't idle very good when that thing isn't hooked up. Thanks guys.
