Question Continuing fuel tank problem

Hi. This is an ongoing problem for a while now. I have a 90 E350, 7.3 with dual tanks. Only the rear tank works. The front is full. But when I move the switch under the dash nothing happens. It does not switch tanks and does not read the the other gauge. I took the easy way first and changed the switch under the dash. No change. I had a so-called truck mechanic look at it and he said it was the valve between the tanks. I changed that with the solenoid. No change. There must be power going through the switch for one tank to work. It just won't switch. All fuses are good. I have a manual but it does not have a skematic that applies to this truck. There does not seem to be a fuel cut off behind the kick panel on the passenger side like my gas pick up had. But if there is one somewhere it must be working because the rear tank works. Does anybody have any suggestions? Could it be something like a bad ground wire? Thanks for any help.

Me too. Same problem. Haven't tried to fix it yet. It's on a long "to do list"
use the odometer to gauge when to fill up. Not always sure which tank I'm on.
Fun, Huh?

my truck used to be that, first i thought i could fix it by gutting the fuel selector switch inder the truck, but that really screwes it u, sometimes it would pull out of the front, sometimes both pretty equally, but mostly from the back. the way i fixed it was by drilling a hole in the bottom of each tank, then put a fitting and ran a hose to both tanks. works like a champ. it drains the rear one first then drains the front one, i got my guage hooked up to the front tank and it kinda sorta works, "stays way over full till it has about 2 gallons left then it hammers to 1/2 tank within 10 miles and you had better get some doesel within the next 10 miles or so!!" but anyways, works for me, i hotwired my tank sender unit directly to the front tank. i have several threads with a long list of materials and how-to's an how to do this if you are interested. just let me know if your interested and i will dig it up for you

Go look in the "80-86 F-series" forum. They have the same dual tanks system and the same problems. Just search for "dual tank" and you will find the answers to your problem.

Thanks. Sounds like it has potential. I love this truck (1988 7.3 4x4 zf) just has an overwhelming # of issues. Don't always know where to start or what to do next. Have to think/choose carefully ---don't have a large fund for her yet.
Can I get a Gov't subsidy for this?

Reseach grants anyone???

Problem fixed. It was not power to the under dash switch. I ran a new line with a fuse and it works great. Thanks for all the help.
