Bigger Tires

I have a 97 Ranger, 2 wheel drive with the 4.0 and automatic transmissions. I would like to upgrade the tires from the 205/70/14 to an offroad type tire like the BFG All Terrain T/A KO. That tire size is 27X8.5QR14.
My question is, with that tire being about 1.3" bigger in diameter will it still fit on my truck with out any rubbing when turning and will there be any kind of after effect on stuff like the transmission and gears and such cause the truck was made for the smaller tire?
I would like to be able to just put these tires on and hopefully give the truck a little bit of a beefier look.

TIA

The difference won't be much for your speedometer. Try checking out the link in the tech info thread at the top of this forum about the biggest tire size, that might have some more information

Do yourself a favor and ditch the 14's for 15" wheels. There's more tire selection, easier to find, look better, and tires are probably cheap for 15's too. A small increase will barely effect speedo, not enough to worry about. I've got some nice Explorer 15" alloys in my garage I'll sell you for a good price too if you're interested
But seriously, 15" wheels would be a BIG improvement...

Thanks for all the info guys. So putting a bigger tire on the truck wont be any cause for concern ie. wont affect the way the transmission shifts or or wont "confuse" the computer cause it is programed to the transmission to have the smaller tire on the truck. I am not really worried about the speedo being off as I do know a bigger tire will affect that, but my main concern is that the truck is pretty much computer programmed, so i didn't want the bigger tires to affect anything.

Thanks for all your help

I went with a slightly bigger tire size on my 2000 auto with no problems. You can calculate the speedometer difference by using the tire circumference, the bigger tires actually made mine more accurate.

I am very happy with my tire size change. 99 Ranger 2.5 AT 2wd.
I started with P205/75R14 with stock wheels 14”x5.5” and changed to
P235/70R15 with 15”x8” white spoke wheels. Raised the height noticeably.
Not only does it look better, but drives more like a truck. Speedometer is off about 5 miles slower (at 65 my speedometer reads 60 mph.) Also looks like my mileage went down from 21.5 mpg to 20 mpg. (Small price to pay)

I went from like 27 ich standard tires to 31.5 inch tires on my 98 4x4. I hd no problems with the computer freaking out or anything, so I doubt you will either. One thing that no one mentioned.....Along with my speedo showing about a 10% slower speed than I'm actually going, I belive my mileage also registers 10% less (i assume the odometer is ran off of the same thing as the speedometer). So thats a bonus.
