Talking Advice For A Newbie

I am needing some advice or words of wisdom. I currently have a 69' shortbed 390 truck that I am thinking of tearing into and rebuilding in to a little hodrod to play with on the weekends around town and mabye at the local dragstrip. I have been reading around the site for a while an noticed that everyone seems to be very helpful , my questions are where do I start? Who makes aftermarket parts for these trucks? What are some good refrence books? and final if you have done this to your truck what would you do different. These are just a few of my million thing that are going through my head, but I am getting excited.

Upgrades

Olered04,I would upgrade to disc brakes in the front as You will need to stop at the end of the dragstrip. If You do not have power steering or brakes I would change them both over.Next I would look at a traction device such as ladder bars and or a detroit locker, if You are going to do a lot of strip racing I would look to regear the rearend and upgrade the driveline to handle the stress of strip racing. Also check with your local strip to find out what they require as far as safety equipment such as a rollbar, fire suppression, seating, seat harness and insurance.Have fun.
